Mechanical vs. Welded Chain Slings

Chain slings can be fabricated using either mechanical or welded components. Each style offered by Stren-Flex® given the same type and size features the same rated capacities; however, there are some differences between mechanical and welded slings.

  • Pros:
    • No mechanical components to wear
    • Sling cannot be modified by employee
    • Sling is tested and certified after assembly
    • Extremely durable and long-lasting when used correctly
  • Cons:
    • More expensive than mechanical slings
    • Take more time to repair
  • Pros:
    • Less expensive
    • Easier and quicker to repair
    • Mechanical slings can be easily modified in the field
    • Extremely durable and long-lasting when used correctly
  • Cons:
    • Mechanical components can wear more rapidly than sling
    • Easily modified by non-qualified personnel resulting in safety risks
